A Little More C.S. Lewis on Humility

Prostitutes are in no danger of finding their present life so satisfactory that they cannot turn to God: the proud, the avaricious, the self-righteous, are in that danger.

Matthew 21:32

Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you. For John came to you to show you the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes did. And even after you saw this, you did not repent and believe him.

This seems like the perfect scripture for "repenting for your goodness," since the Pharisees kept the law and thanked God that they were not like others who did not. Yet they were lost. And it was precisely their goodness and perceived status before God that prevented them from entering the kingdom.
